Save the Planet UU Video featuring a purple 1 1/2 inch alien finger puppet.

Available as a digital download for those who want a version to show to Sunday school classes or other UU groups. Note the digital version is kid friendly - the alien doesn't say "Life on Earth Sucks!!!"

Cost $3 with proceeds going to my puppet, fairtrade coffee and video equipment funds.

Watch the video on You TubeThis video came out of a conversation on the power of YoutTube, Google Video and Internet viral videos to share a message. I made it on a lazy Saturday (October 14, 2006) when a shoot for one of the TV shows I work on was called off. This was an experiment to see how much "play" a silly, quick, unrehearsed, low production quality video can get over time. Something more of the nature of the viral videos bouncing around the web. My hunch was that something stupid and/or weird would get more non-UU's to check it out including UU's sending it to friends.

Note that once you take away the time spent learning how to use the Vlogit! software and Audacity, this took an hour to produce. I already had the alien from my work with children's television.

I've had many UU ministers, lay leaders and random UU's email via youtube saying they think it is great. For the time I spent on it, yes. But the response also highlights just how great the need is for UU's to produce high (or higher) quality UU media. Right I'm in the process of fusing my TV and UU work together. I'm presently in a full time digital film & television training program. My goal is to help produce AMAZING UU rich media that we can use to share our message, orient newcomers, and train our leaders.

As for posting this video on UU sites, my preference is that it only be posted on personal sites. I don't think it is of sufficient quality to post on a church site *UNLESS* it is labeled as humor.

Bottom line - can we reach as many people using inexpensive video as a regional Uncommon Denomination marketing campaign? We'll see. Just look at the stats I've compiled below. A lot of viewers for the time. Next step? High quality videos on "What is Unitarian Universalism" and all that UU FAQ stuff.
